Santo Domingo De la Calzada, Spain
This town is very small and about 45 minutes away by bus from Logroño. It was decorated with flags and ornate signs for the medieval festival.
There were over 90 stalls of different treats, spices, caldo (yummy salty broth), and chorizo filled dough ball sandwiches.
Women dressed in fairy and elf costumes, with sparkly makeup and pointed ears.
The stalls also sold handcrafted items such as these bird houses. My favorite were the hand-knitted gloves and the donuts.
Some of the spices…
The Cathedral de Santo Domingo de la Calzada was beautiful with the afternoon sun.
Gleaming tile mosaics filled the walls of the basement of the cathedral.
The aforementioned yummy caldo! Overall, Santo Domingo was a quaint and lovely town to visit for the afternoon. There wasn’t much to do outside of the medieval festival, but it was entirely a fun experience.
